Sleeping Train
Pawel Jaszczuk

Sleeping Train documents Tokyo’s subway and its sleeping inhabitants. Shot in 2004, the work allows the viewer to momentarily enter into the world of dreams:

The familiar rhythm of the carriage sets us at ease as we begin our journey, on each page we see a face that has fallen through the trap door of sleep: Pawel’s images invite us to follow them into the dreamworld. The faces we see unconsciously welcome us and we are greeted by hopes, fears and desires. We are strange guests. In this unknowing performance, the sleepers, our hosts, relax allowing their faces to tell tales. Expressions suggest tiresome weeks, worried minds and troubled hearts. Everything is a possibility.
